NLP or neuro-linguistic programming to give it its full name comprises a powerful set of tools and techniques  based on language, communication and personal change.

In the 1970s, Richard Bandler and John Grinder modelled the work of three of the world’s greatest therapists - Virginia Satir (Family Systems Therapy), Fritz Perls (Gestalt Therapy) and Milton H. Erickson (Clinical Hypnosis).
NLP is often describes as being a user manual for the brain. That sounds helpful since none of us got one and we’ve been largely making it up as we go along.

So what is NLP?

Lets break it down.

Neuro – the mind, specifically the subconscious mind and the nervous system which lets us process all of our experiences through the 5 senses.  NLP provides effective way of talking to your subconscious mind to help achieve real change and nlp eye accessing tools can help to interpret what people really mean.

Linguistic – we take in and process a lot information through language and other non-verbal communication systems.  NLP communication strategy can be used to improve your communications by helping you to better understand how to communicate effectively with others to make yourself understood.
Programming – Through the use of modeling, nlp you can identify the strategies that lead people to success.  Once you know their strategies,  you can copy them and techniques like nlp anchoring will let you completely change the way you do things so that you can achieve the same success.

Sounds great, doesn't it, and the good news is that anyone can learn how to become an NLP practitioner, or even a master practitioner, and there are many ways you can do it.
Online NLP training courseOnline nlp training can be very effective.
Of course, we all learn differently, so what kind of nlp training would work best for you?

NLP courses can be delivered on-line.  It will certainly be cheaper than a live training and you can work at your own pace.  That means you can take time to master the tricky parts and speed through the easier sections.  You won’t be able to work with other learners, but you can find a friend or colleague to work with.  I know from experience that people are always up for some free help with solving a problem!

If you decide that the on-line route is for you, then Steve G Jones and his NLP Practitioner Certification course is a great option.  I am a huge fan of Steve, this guy knows what he is talking about and his 100 page manual and 10 instructional video downloads are very effective at getting the learning over to you.   He explains things really well and encourages you to ‘do homework’,  practising what you have learnt and anchoring the nlp techniques in your subconscious mind.  Click the link and have a look at his site.  You'll find samples of some of the video downloads as well as a link to some free materials.  This will let you see for yourself whether Steve is a good fit for you before you decide to buy.

Or you may prefer to enrol on a live course where you will be taught all the nlp techniques and tools.  The major advantage of learning in this way is that there will be a class full of people learning with you and you will be able to see the techniques for yourself and practice them in a safe environment.  Although you will achieve great results you may find this an expensive option both in terms of time and money.  An NLP Practitioner course will normally last around a week and cost somewhere around £1,000.  Having taken a live course, I can confirm that it is worth every penny and every moment, but not everyone is able to make that kind of commitment. A quick google search will give you information about available courses close to you.
Or maybe you're not ready to commit to an NLP course and you just want to read around the subject for a bit.  Have a look at the free ebook at the top of this page.  It will give you a high level introduction to the subject, or if you want something a bit more detailed, then Amazon is always a good place to start.  Here is a link to a good starting book.  I've had this one for a long time now and I find I keep going back to it.
Whatever route you choose, I am confident you will find NLP to be really helpful to you in many different areas of your life.  You will have a powerful set of tools and techniques at your disposal that will help you to achieve success in whatever you choose to do.
